 n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe PSU Steinway Piano Series is proud to announce its 2021 f
 eature artist\, the internationally celebrated and “uncommonly elegant p
 ianist\,” (The New York Times) Anton Nel. An acclaimed interpreter and f
 ormer first prize winner of the Naumburg International Piano Competition a
 t Carnegie Hall\, Nel performs with “a beautifully weighted tone and a n
 early flawless legato.”(Chicago Tribune) Through the PSU Steinway Piano 
 Series\, Nel will star in a solo concert on May 1st featuring a beautifull
 y balanced\, one-of-a-kind program of music by Bach\, Mozart\, Debussy and
  Granados\, preceded by a masterclass on April 30th.\n&nbsp\;\nDesigned to
  maximize the at home listening experience and spread the joy of world cla
 ss piano performance\, both events on this season’s PSU Steinway Piano S

 , Nel has an active repertoire of more than one hundred works for piano an
 d orchestra\, and his four decades of concertizing includes performances w
 ith the Cleveland Orchestra\, the symphonies of Chicago\, Dallas\, San Fra
 ncisco\, Seattle\, Detroit\, and London\, among many others. As recitalist
 \, he has appeared at Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, the Metropolitan Mu
 seum and the Frick Collection in New York\, at the Ambassador Auditorium i
 n Pasadena\, Davies Hall in San Francisco\, and the Library of Congress in
  Washington\, DC. Internationally he has performed recitals in major conce
 rt halls in England (Queen Elizabeth and Wigmore Halls in London)\, France
 \, Holland (Concertgebouw in Amsterdam)\, Japan (Suntory Hall in Tokyo)\, 
 Korea\, China\, South Africa\, and Canada. A favorite at summer festivals\
 , he has performed at Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival\, as well as
  at the music festivals of Aspen and Ravinia (where he is on the artist-fa
 culties)\, Vancouver\, Cartagena\, and Stellenbosch\, among numerous other
 s.&nbsp\;\nA highly sought-after educator\, in September 2000\, Anton Nel 
 was appointed as the Priscilla Pond Flawn Regents Professor of Piano and C
 hamber music at the University of Texas at Austin\, where he teaches an in
 ternational class of students and heads the Division of Keyboard Studies. 
 Nel became the university’s first holder of the new Joe R. and Teresa Lo
 zano Long Endowed Chair in Piano in January 2010\, and also received two A
 ustin-American Statesman Critics Circle Awards\, as well as the University
  Cooperative Society/College of Fine Arts award for extra-curricular achie
 vement. In 2001 he was appointed Visiting "Extraordinary" Professor at the
  University of Stellenbosch in South Africa\, and since 2015\, Nel has pre
 sented an annual series of masterclasses in piano and chamber music at the
  Manhattan School of Music in New York as Visiting Professor. He also teac
 hes regularly at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto and continues to teach 
 master classes worldwide. Former positions include professorships at the E
 astman School of Music\, and the University of Michigan\, where he was cha
 irman of the piano department.&nbsp\;\nThe PSU Steinway Piano Series bring
 s internationally recognized performers and educators to Portland for a we
 ekend of public recitals and masterclasses each year. Acting as a bridge b
 etween world-class stages and the college classroom\, the series elevates 
 awareness for PSU’s outstanding music program while providing students a
 nd concertgoers with access to a broad spectrum of the highest level profe
